A Dreamy Backyard Wedding at Home
There is something incredibly special about getting married in a place that already feels like home.
For Samantha and Bret, their own backyard became the setting for a wedding day filled with dreamy florals, thoughtful details, sentimental family moments, and eventually, a disco ball hanging over a dance floor that Samantha had absolutely no intention of leaving.
Their celebration proved that a backyard wedding can feel every bit as intentional and beautiful as a traditional venue while still having something no other venue could offer: it was completely, unmistakably theirs.
The Vision
Samantha and Bret transformed their home into a beautiful setting for both their ceremony and reception, filling the day with details that felt collected, personal, and a little unexpected.
And we need to talk about Samantha's dress.
It was a dream.
The gown was stunning, detailed, and just a little more involved when it came time to bustle it for the reception. Thankfully, a true wedding professional is always ready for a bustle challenge, and our Navi team was more than happy to help get every layer exactly where it needed to be so Samantha could enjoy the rest of her evening.
The florals were equally dreamy and came with an extra personal touch. Their arrangements were DIY using flowers from Trader Joe's, creating a romantic, organic look throughout their backyard celebration.
Even the guest favors became part of the experience. Thrifted coffee mugs were collected for guests to choose from and use throughout the evening at the coffee bar or bar before taking their mug home at the end of the night. Inside, custom matchboxes gave guests another small keepsake from the celebration.
It was thoughtful without feeling overly coordinated, beautiful without feeling too formal, and perfectly suited for a wedding at home.
Bringing It All Together
Samantha and Bret spent their morning getting ready before sharing a private first look.
With their wedding happening at home, they made a smart choice with their timeline: after seeing each other for the first time, they left together to take portraits before guests ever began arriving.
It gave them space to enjoy those photos without the activity of an arriving guest list happening around them and allowed them to return home ready for the ceremony and celebration ahead.
Hosting the wedding at their own home also meant one particularly important member of the family didn't have to miss out.
Their sweet dog was able to join them for photos, adding another piece of their everyday life into a day celebrating the life they were continuing to build together.
Behind the scenes, our Navi Coordination team worked alongside their vendor team to keep all of the moving pieces of a private-property wedding flowing together. With tents, catering, bartending, restroom rentals, ceremony details, and a reception all being brought directly to their home, there were plenty of logistics happening in the background while Samantha and Bret got to focus on the reason everyone was there.
From Ceremony to Celebration
Samantha and Bret chose not to have a traditional wedding party, but that didn't mean the people closest to them weren't part of their day in meaningful ways.
During the reception, each of their sisters gave a sentimental speech, creating a special moment that didn't require matching dresses or standing beside them during the ceremony to show just how important family was to their celebration.
Once the formalities were complete, however, the backyard was ready for a transformation.
Out came the disco ball.
As daylight faded and the reception shifted into party mode, their backyard dance floor took on an entirely different personality. And once the classics started playing, there was simply no stopping Samantha.
She was there to dance.
And Bret? Fully supportive.
There is something we love about watching a reception reach the point where the timeline has been handled, the formalities are finished, and our couple gets to stop thinking about what comes next. Samantha could stay on the dance floor, Bret could cheer her on, and their favorite people could simply enjoy the party happening around them.
The Final Result
Samantha and Bret didn't need to leave home to create a wedding that felt extraordinary.
Their backyard became a ceremony space, a reception venue, a coffee bar, and eventually a dance floor glowing beneath a disco ball. Trader Joe's flowers became dreamy wedding arrangements. Thrifted mugs became both part of the decor and favors their guests could take home. Their dog could wander into wedding portraits because home was exactly where everyone as supposed to be.
And woven between all of those details were the moments that mattered most: a private first look, time together for portraits before guests arrived, heartfelt words from their sisters, and an evening spent celebrating with the people they love.
At the end of the night, the tents could come down, the rentals could leave, and the last song could play.
But unlike leaving a traditional wedding venue, Samantha and Bret were already exactly where they belonged.
